City Council voted Wednesday to give $5,000 in public money to support a local ballet group.
COLUMBIA -- Columbia City Council voted 5-2 Wednesday to give $5,000 in public money to the Columbia City Ballet to support an upcoming performance in Chicago.
According to Councilman E.W. Cromartie, the ballet is required to advertise for the city on its website as a condition of the gift.
The money comes from the city's hospitality tax fund.
So what do you think? Should the city give money to artistic groups as a way to promote culture in the community or is this a waste of tax dollars?
