SUMMERVILLE (AP) -- Authorities have released the name of a man killed in a shootout with South Carolina sheriff's deputies.
The Post and Courier of Charleston reported Monday that the Dorchester County coroner's office identified the man as 28-year-old Jason Kastelhun of Summerville.
Sheriff's deputies say Kastelhun pulled a gun after he stepped from a pickup truck that had been pulled over Saturday night. Deputies say he fired at a Dorchester County deputy when he was ordered to put the gun down. The deputy returned fire, hitting Kastelhun several times and killing him. The officer was not hurt.
Deputy Coroner Perida Moultrie says a toxicology report will take several weeks.
The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating.
