Gas prices have spiked dramatically nationwide and Midlands’s drivers are taking notice.

According to AAA of the Carolinas gas prices are at a 15-month high. On Friday Columbia drivers filled up for an average of $2.55 a gallon. That’s about a dollar more than this time last year.

Industries insiders say don’t blame them because their prices follow crude oil prices and they’re up 19-percent in the past three weeks.

While Columbia’s prices don’t seem fair, South Carolina still has the nation’s fifth lowest gas prices. Drivers in Alaska and California are paying well over $3 a gallon.
