COLUMBIA -- Portions of three main Columbia streets were closed Friday morning after a water main break near the intersection of Rosewood Drive and South Assembly Street.

Columbia police set up traffic barriers blocking cars from South Assembly between Shop Road and Rosewood. George Rogers Boulevard was blocked off in front of Williams-Brice Stadium and Rosewood Drive was closed from South Marion Street to Assembly Street.

The water main break could possibly result in bacterial contamination of the water. The City of Columbia Water Works is advising water customers between Rosewood Drive and Assembly Street to boil their water for at least one full minute before drinking or cooking.  Also, any residents near that area who have lost water or water pressure are also advised to do the same.

Also, any ice made from water that has not been boiled should not be used for drinking purposes.
