LEXINGTON COUNTY -- Two months after Lexington and Richland County Deputies began patrolling shorefront homes along Lake Murray, the departments are reminding homeowners the service is available to check on boats and docks in addition to homes.
Homeowners can request deputies check on their property by calling the Lexington County Sheriff's Department at (803) 785-8230. Callers must specify they want a marine patrol.
Marine patrols began October 1 to discourage residential break-ins along the lake, where homes are among the most expensive in the Midlands. Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said a three-member team is assigned to the marine patrols.
Patrols are free upon request for any home or business located along Lake Murray's 308-mile shore in Lexington County. Residents are asked to post their address on docks to make it easier for officers to locate their property from the water.
Richland County residents can request a free patrol by clicking the link below.
