COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina Attorney General Henry McMaster says he and his counterparts in Michigan and Washington state are investigating whether the federal health care deal is constitutional.
The announcement Tuesday comes at the behest of South Carolina U.S. Sens. Lindsey Graham and Jim DeMint. Graham says the health care overhaul shows sleazy politics wins votes and wants to know whether the deal making was legal.
Also Tuesday, Tennessee Republican Senate Speaker Ron Ramsey called for an attorney general investigation of the deal. Ramsey, McMaster and Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox are all running for governor in their states.
Earlier in the day, House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn said Republicans should stop complaining and look out for their own states.
