SUMTER COUNTY---Authorities say one man died and three were injured in a shootout during an attempted robbery in rural South Carolina.

Deputies found 21-year-old Kemper Holiday dead in the living room of a Rembert home, with 48-year-old Hugh Phillips lying next to him. Phillips was shot in the back.

A police report says two men ran in the house and tried to rob those inside Monday night, then shot Holiday, Phillips and 30-year-old Orlando McCray. He went to the hospital before police arrived.

Sumter County Sheriff Anthony Dennis said the intruders tried to restrain the occupants with duct tape, but one got loose, leading to the shootout.

Officers say a 24-year-old suspect was found in the wounds nearby with at least five gunshot wounds.
