South Carolina's public television station is featuring the famed Doolittle Raiders who bombed Tokyo in 1942.
The monthly "In Our Schools" program on South Carolina ETV is highlighting the Raiders, who trained in Columbia and held a reunion there last April. The show airs at 5 p.m. Sunday.
It will include part of a Raiders documentary produced by Columbia eighth-grader Morgan Adams.
Eighty pilots and crewmen participated in the risky mission. It was credited with buoying American spirits following the attack on Pearl Harbor.
The planes were to fly 650 miles over the Pacific Ocean to bomb their targets, then continue 1,600 miles in hopes of reaching airfields in China.
The planes completed their missions, but most ditched at sea or crashed in China.
