WALTERBORO, S.C. (AP) -- The State Law Enforcement Division says its agents will patrol the small South Carolina town of Walterboro through the weekend following shootings that left three dead and eight wounded.

SLED Chief Reggie Lloyd and Governor Mark Sanford visited the community on Friday.

Sanford says he was there to listen and lend support. Officials say the SLED presence will be re-evaluated Monday. They have not ruled out gang activity.

Lloyd says the increased police presence was evident with a quiet night Thursday.

Three people were killed Monday night in a drive-by shooting. Two others were shot and wounded Wednesday several blocks away.
