SUMTER, S.C. (AP) -- Authorities say a 15-year-old South Carolina boy has died after jumping from a bridge and panicking when he hit the water.

Multiple media outlets reported that Rashaad Jamal Jackson of Lake Marion died around 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning. Clarendon County Deputy Coroner Bucky Mock says Jackson drowned and no autopsy is planned.

Jackson and another boy leapt off a bridge that runs parallel to Interstate 95 in Clarendon County. Authorities say something caused Jackson to panic once he hit the water about 30 feet below.

The other boy tried unsuccessfully to save Jackson, a member of Manning High School's football team. Funeral arrangements are still being completed.
