CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- Homeless children and families on the South Carolina coast are getting free eye exams and glasses.
On Wednesday, Charleston State Rep. Wendell Gilliard and a representative of Congressman Jim Clyburn visit Crisis Ministries in Charleston as part of the effort.
It's the third and final day of a free eye exam and glasses clinic sponsored by the lawmakers in cooperation with VSP Vision Care.
The exams are being offered from a mobile eye exam clinic.
The clinic is providing exams to about 200 needy families.
The National Eye Institute says that after oral health, eye health is the greatest unmet health care need in the United States.
