DENVER (AP) — Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc. has agreed to give workers for one of its Florida suppliers an extra penny per pound of tomatoes harvested, or a 64 percent increase.

Chipotle spokesman Chris Arnold wouldn't disclose what the agreement will cost the Denver-based restaurant chain per year. He says the agreement represents a relatively small percentage of Chipotle's nationwide tomato purchases.

The deal announced Wednesday is with East Coast Farms. It came after months of discussions with the Coalition of Immokalee Workers, which has campaigned for better wages for Florida farm workers.

Chipotle, which also has worked to buy more naturally raised meat and local or organic produce, has some of the highest food costs among its peers.
