COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- The University of South Carolina says its new students are already setting records.

The school announced Monday that its 5,130 first-year students mark the largest group in the school's history.

The 3,930 students in the freshman class have an average SAT score of 1194. University President Harris Pastides says that number makes the students the most academically prepared in the school's history.

The 320 freshmen in the Honors College have an average score of 1410.

In all, USC says more than 20,500 undergraduates are enrolled at its main campus in Columbia this year. More than 41,000 students are enrolled at the university system's eight campuses.
