Associated Press Writer.

A convicted drug dealer who police say shot and killed a 12-year-old South Carolina trick-or-treater is set to plead guilty to a federal weapons charge.

Quentin Patrick was expected to plead guilty Tuesday afternoon in federal court in Columbia after a morning session was postponed.

Patrick has three prior drug convictions. The 23-year-old was charged as a felon in possession of a weapon after authorities recovered an AK-47 from his Sumter home.

Police say Patrick emptied the gun into the front of his house when heard a knock at his door Oct. 31. Patrick told police he thought he was being robbed when he saw masked people outside.

T.J. Darrisaw died in a rain of at least 29 bullets. His brother and their father were injured.

Patrick faces state murder and assault charges.
