Breast cancer is the second most common cancer in women besides skin cancer. One in eight have the chance of developing breast cancer. Two million US women are currently being treated for the disease. One in five breast cancer survivors suffer a recurrence.
Michelle Cooper is one of those women. Doctors first diagnosed her with breast cancer in 2007. She was 32 years old and underwent a mastectomy.
This past May, Cooper suffered a recurrence. Her cancer was inoperable, so doctors performed an experimental procedure called Cyberknife. With more radiation treatments, doctors are hopeful Cooper will recover.
Cooper's health insurance didn't cover the Cyberknife procedure because it was deemed experimental. The medical bills are piling up, so family and friends are hosting a fundraiser to help.
The Pink Benefit For Michelle is Saturday, August 8 at Mount Horeb United Methodist Church. It runs from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. There will be music, food, and an auction.
