COLUMBIA, S.C. -- The University of South Carolina has fired the Detroit-based developer hired to construct part of its public-private partnership aimed at nurturing high-tech companies.
The State of Columbia reports that USC fired Kale Roscoe on Tuesday.
Roscoe was chosen to build the private portion of Innovista, the university's downtown Columbia research campus.
The school says it let Roscoe go because he couldn't land a loan for the campus first private building, nine months after his deadline for starting construction. Roscoe says he had secured funding and was ready to proceed.
Two public research buildings already constructed at Innovista are empty, and two more private structures have yet to be built. Innovista will also be home to the university's new business school building.
