The federal minimum wage is increasing by 70 cents Friday. It will now be $7.25 an hour. Wendy's franchise owner Vanessa English says the increase couldn't come at a worse time, because of the economic slump. She says she'll have to compensate by laying off some workers and cutting hours.
Worker Jackie Trucks says the raise won't make much of a difference. She says even though she'll be earning more money, she'll work less hours.
Congress passed a minimum wage law in 2007 to increase the rate over three years. Back then it was $5.15 an hour.
