Kershaw County council members are making some controversial decisions; which might include a tax hike. That's something residents don't want to hear.
Tuesday night's Kershaw County council meeting was packed with residents looking for answers about their tax dollars. Council members listen to people's concerns, ranging from employee layoffs to tax hikes.
Members have to make key decisions that have a caused a lot of commotion, including raising property taxes, sewage bills and pay cuts for the county's 260 employees.
This year's $20-million budget is $two-million less than last year's. The county has already cut several workers. Some residents blame council for the layoffs saying members should have planned better. Some council members argue they do have a plan to prevent more lay offs. It includes across the board salary cuts or furloughs.
