COLUMBIA, SC -- Candy Davis has lived in the Cambridge Oaks subdivision for 10 years, and she never expected an assault to happen in her community.
"I was shocked... This is a nice safe neighborhood."
Davis didn't even know that something had happened down the road until someone called her.
"My sister-in-law saw it on the news, and she called us and said, "There's been an assault in your neighborhood," and I said, "Really?"
It's one of four assaults in the past two weeks - all targeting women.
Sergeant Kim Myers with the Richland County Sheriff's Department suggests taking a few steps to protect yourself.
"Always look around when you're going outside. Park in a well-lit area. Walk with buddies. You also want to make sure you're getting a good description of the people walking in your neighborhood."
Meanwhile, Candy Davis is working with her neighborhood to tell others about what's going on.
"We're all being safer. I've told all my neighbors about it... We're trying to watch out for each other."
Keeping an eye on crime to make sure others are safe.
