(AP) -- One more appeal stands between a 34-year-old Alabama man and execution by lethal injection in South Carolina's death chamber.

Thomas Treshawn Ivey is to be executed Friday for killing Tommy Harrison.

Prosecutors say Ivey shot the 38-year-old Orangeburg police sergeant in 1993 after trying to pass a bad check.

Prosecutors say Ivey's crime spree began when he and another inmate escaped from an Alabama jail and drove to Columbia. Ivey has also been sentenced to death for killing a South Carolina businessman several days before killing Harrison.

The U.S. Supreme Court has not ruled on Ivey's request for either a stay of execution or a new trial.

He would be the second person in South Carolina executed this year.
