A Columbia woman faces charges in connection to the death of of a nine month old child. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) arrested Angela Deniece Dukes on Wednesday night. Dukes is charged with unlawful conduct toward a child, a felony that carries a possible prison sentence of up to ten years and/or a fine.
SLED spokeswoman Jennifer Timmons tells WACH FOX News Dukes is accused of taping a pacifier to Curtis Jivers' mouth, causing his death in February. According to Timmons, Dukes had foster care custody of the boy at the time. Cayce Police had placed the child with the Department of Social Services after arresting his mother, Katrina Jivers on a marijuana charge. Less than 24 hours later, the boy was dead. DSS documents indicate Curtis died from heart problems.
Katrina Jivers was unavailable to comment Wednesday night. WACH FOX News spoke with Katrina's mother, Shirley Jivers, who said this new information validates what the family has always felt concerning Curtis' death.
Dukes was scheduled for an 11:00 PM bond hearing on Wednesday.
