COLUMBIA, SC -- People are putting on their walking shoes for a good cause Saturday.
The Columbia High School drum line leads the way for the morning's Third Annual Walk for Foster Care.
The event helps raise awareness that there are thousands of children in foster care right here in South Carolina.
Around 300 people showed up, including WACH FOX News' Ashley Norris, who emceed the event.
The walk was sponsored by Growing Home Southeast.
President Gayle Ricks says it was a way to honor people who change children's lives. "We need volunteers. We need mentors. We want them to have a good boost in life so they can realize their potential."
If you missed today's walk, don't worry. There will be other events to celebrate National Foster Care Awareness Month.
