COLUMBIA, SC (AP) -- Lutherans across South Carolina are getting together for a day of service.

Volunteers are gathering Saturday to deliver cookies to hospitals, fire and police stations, prisons and children's homes.

Volunteers also will play games with residents at senior centers, give free car washes and work on home repairs for low-income residents.

Organizers with the financial advice firm Thrivent Financial for Lutherans say members from more than 100 congregations across the state are expected to participate in "Operations Inasmuch/Join Hands Day."

The event is sponsored by the South Carolina Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and the Southeastern Regional Financial Office of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.
