The fourth Annual Vietnam Veterans Survivors & Remembrance Day Program will be held on May 1, 2009 at 9:15 A.M in Memorial Park located in downtown Columbia. The SC Combat Veterans Group (Disabled) of Dorn VA Medical Center will conduct a wreath laying ceremony in memory of the brave South Carolinians whose service to this country ended with the ultimate sacrifice.
Memorial Park is bordered by Hampton, Gadsden, Washington and Wayne Streets in downtown Columbia.
At 12:30 the SC Combat Veterans Group will honor all Vietnam Veteran Survivors with a ceremony in the front of the five story medical surgical building that faces Garners Ferry Road at the Dorn VA Medical Center's Avenue of Flags Park.
This event started in Columbia as "Vietnam Survivor's Day" eleven years ago. In 2006 it became an official South Carolina Day of Remembrance. In past years it has attracted considerable media coverage. The SC Combat Veterans Group is hoping that it will become a national celebration.
