The Tennessee Titans have made their first trade of the 2009 NFL Draft, making a move with New England and drafting South Carolina tight end Jared Cook in the third round.
The Titans Sunday swapped the Patriots their second-round pick in 2010 for the 25th pick in the third and 89th overall.
The 6-foot-4, 246-pound Cook ran the fastest time of any tight end at the NFL Combine. Cook caught 37 passes for 573 yards and three touchdowns.
This is the second straight year the Titans have drafted a tight end in the third round after grabbing Craig Stevens of California.
They used the franchise tag on Bo Scaife, their leading receiver last season. Scaife has yet to sign his tender.
Some other South Carolina players drafted include wide receiver Kenny McKinley (Denver Broncos), inside linebacker Jasper Brinkley (Minnesota Vikings), and offensive tackle Jamon Meredith (Green Bay Packers). All three were picked in the fifth round.
Other South Carolina draft hopefuls include free safety Emanuel Cook, cornerback Captain Munnerlyn, and kicker Ryan Succop.
The St. Louis Rams selected Clemson defensive tackle Dorell Scott in the fourth round of the NFL draft. Free safety Chris Clemons was picked in the fith round by the Miami Dolphins, and free safety Michael Hamlin got picked by the Dallas Cowboys, also in the fifth round.
Clemson running back James Davis was picked by the Cleveland Browns during the sixth round of the NFL draft.
Other Clemson draft hopefuls include quarterback Cullen Harper and wide receiver Aaron Kelly.
The Atlanta Falcons have continued to remain committed to defense by picking Furman cornerback William Middleton in the fifth round of the draft.
The team has drafted defensive players with each of its first five picks.
Middleton, a three-year starter at Furman, was a high school star at Marist in Atlanta. He was the team's second cornerback taken on Sunday, following San Jose State's Christopher Owens in the third round.
The Falcons must replace cornerback Domonique Foxworth, one of five defensive starters who left through free agency.
The Falcons chose defensive end Lawrence Sidbury of Richmond in the fourth round.
On Saturday, the Falcons drafted Mississippi defensive tackle Peria Jerry and Missouri safety William Moore.
