NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (AP) -- A puppy who barked warnings as a South Carolina wildfire raced toward his family's home -- only to be lost in the ensuing chaos -- has been reunited his owners.

The 10-month-old black mixed breed pup named Onyx was the forlorn subject of a photo in The Sun News of Myrtle Beach after the fire tore through the Barefoot Resort community.

The dog stood amid the rubble suffering from burns to his rump, stomach and paws.

On Saturday, owner Donna Finley was reunited with Onyx at the North Myrtle Beach animal hospital treating him.

Finley tells the newspaper Onyx is a hero for barking early Thursday until the family looked outside and saw the flames.

But Onyx ran off and the family couldn't go after him.

The animal hospital says Onyx should fully recover.
