CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- A father and his 10-year-old son were able to walk away after their small plane crashed in marshland in Mount Pleasant.
Mount Pleasant Police Sgt. R.H. Googe told The Post and Courier of Charleston that the plane landed flat on its belly Saturday afternoon. He says the pilot and his son were muddy, but didn't appear to be injured.
Witnesses say the banked before going down.
After the crash, the plane sunk into the mud, leaving only its tail visible.
Federal officials will investigate the crash, and environment agents are monitoring the scene for any fuel leaks
The name of the pilot has not been released.
