(AP) -- COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- The field of Democratic gubernatorial hopefuls in South Carolina is growing with a Charleston lawyer entering the race.
Mullins McLeod is telling Democrats in a letter to state convention delegates released Wednesday that he's running.
McLeod joins state Sens. Vincent Sheheen of Camden and Robert Ford of Charleston in the bid for their party's nomination.
McLeod says current political leaders are powerless and the state needs a new direction.
Democrats hope for a bump from President Barack Obama's win last year to take back the governor's office they lost in 2002.
The Republican field is filling, too. U.S. Rep. Gresham Barrett and Furman political scientist Brent Nelsen already have declared and Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer and Attorney General Henry McMaster plan to announce later.
