COLUMBIA, SC -- Senior citizens are getting some help in improving their driving skills from the Richland County Sheriff's Department and the AARP.

This is the third time the two organizations are partnering to provide the service.  Drivers fifty years and older are going to be taught defensive driving methods that can help them avoid accidents and traffic violations.

People participating in this "AARP Driver Safety Program" can also receive a state-mandated multi-year discount on their insurance policies.  AARP members will pay $12 for the course, and non-members will bay $14.

The class will take place on April 21 and 22 from 9:00 in the morning until 1:00 in the afternoon at the Richland County Adult Activity Center, which is at 7494 Parklane Road in Columbia.

For more information, call Sergeant Matt Southern at (803) 551-1149.  You can also e-mail him at msouthern@rcsd.net.
