QUINCY, MA (AP) -- Police say a Massachusetts woman suspected of killing one of her daughters and her unborn child tried to kill the fetus two months earlier by drinking a toxic substance.

The Boston Globe, quoting a police report filed in court, reported Saturday that Fang Chi-Xue's (chee-SWAYZ) attempt on the life of her fetus prompted a February visit from the Department of Children and Families.

Department spokeswoman Alison Goodwin says officials didn't remove the children because there was a second caretaker and an understanding that Chi-Xue would get proper medical care.

On Thursday, Chi-Xue allegedly tried to strangle her 14-year-old daughter and killed her 9-year-old daughter and unborn child.

Chi-Xue was ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.
