Columbia, S.C. -  A truck driver is lucky to be alive after a scary situation on Interstate 77 at Wilson Boulevard.  Officials say shortly before 10 am Tuesday the truck went off the side of an overpass, and flipped on its side, trapping the driver in the wreckage.

A passing motorist, Hector Pineda, stopped and ran to the scene to help.  Pineda and Richland County Sheriff's deputies Odell Glenn and Melinda Martin pulled the driver to safety.  Pineda says the trapped man looked up at him and asked him not to leave him behind.

The truck reportedly burst into flames roughly 30-40 seconds after the driver was pulled to safety.

The driver was transported to Palmetto Health Richland and was said to be in fair condition.
