TRACY, CA (AP) -- Relatives of a woman jailed on suspicion of killing an 8-year-old girl in Northern California say the accusations against her do not sound like the person they know.
A man who would only describe himself as a member of Melissa Huckaby's family read a statement to reporters Sunday outside the mobile home park where 8-year-old Sandra Cantu was last seen alive in the town of Tracy.
He said the charges against Huckaby were "completely out of character."
The man was joined by several other relatives, including Huckaby's grandfather, Clifford Lawless, who is pastor of a nearby church that police searched during the investigation.
Sandra's body was found Monday in a suitcase dumped in an irrigation pond.
Huckaby was arrested late Friday.
