WEST COLUMBIA,SC -- The City of West Columbia joined the Governor and South Carolina Legislature in recognizing Lieutenant Robert “Bobby” Sharpe at Tuesday night’s City Council meeting. Sharpe was recognized for thirty years of volunteer service as a reserve police officer for the city by Mayor Bobby Horton. After receiving his thirty-year service pin, Representative Nikki Haley, Senator Nikki Setzler and Representative Kenny Bingham surprised Lt. Sharpe with the Order of the Palmetto.
Lt. Sharpe began his reserve officer career on December 2, 1978 and has served continuously in that position for more than thirty years. Chief Dennis Tyndall estimated that Lt. Sharpe has donated more than 20,000 hours to the community over the years. “He is such a wonderful asset to our community. We are proud to have him as one of our team. This recognition is much deserved”, said Tyndall.
The Order of the Palmetto is the highest civilian award given by the Governor’s Office. It is awarded to recognize lifetime achievement and service.
