COLUMBIA, SC (AP) -- South Carolina's top prosecutor is joining with a nonprofit group to donate bulletproof vests to some of the state's law enforcement officers.

Attorney General Henry McMaster is presenting bulletproof vests to the Springdale Police Department and Newberry County Sheriff's Department during a ceremony on Sunday.

The vests were donated by In-Vest USA.

The nonprofit was founded in 1993 by a South Carolina businessman concerned that protective vests weren't being given to local law enforcement officers as a regular part of their personal equipment.

The organization helps raise money and awareness of officer safety and distributes vests across the country.
