(AP) -- COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Former Ben Lippen football coach Jake Sawyer has been charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor for his relationship with a female student at the high school.
Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said investigators determined that Sawyer and the student at the Christian-based high school didn't have a sexual relationship. Sawyer was advised to stop calling, meeting and communicating with the teen.
However, Lott said the girl's parents learned this past Sunday that the 36-year-old Sawyer had given the girl a cell phone and was texting and sending her letters through other students.
Sawyer being held at Richland County jail on $20,000 bond. It was unclear if he had an attorney.
