(AP) -- COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Hundreds of women are expected at an annual luncheon that recognizes South Carolina's elected females.
The public event Wednesday will honor South Carolina's former first ladies and feature conservative syndicated columnist Kathleen Parker, author of "Save the Males."
South Carolina continues to rank last nationwide in the percentage of female legislators, with 17 women in the House. It is the only state with no female senators.
Rep. Joan Brady says the Women's Caucus luncheon recognizes the work women do in public offices statewide and hopefully inspires more to run. The Columbia Republican expects 450 people, up from the usual 300 or so.
Brady says the recession may prompt more women to get involved in politics, to have a greater voice in government decisions.
