LEXINGTON, SC -- Reverend Bill Green, associate pastor of Saxe Gotha Presbyterian Church in Lexington, died Saturday due to a rare blood disease.
The 47-year-old minister was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome (also known as MDS) back in May. The blood disorder decreases the production of red and white blood cells, as well as platelets.
Reverend Green went through a bone-marrow transplant in January.
Reverend Jim Glatz, the church’s senior pastor, said in a statement, “Green’s death will be hard on the congregation. He was working Saturday on his message to parishioners, knowing the pain many were feeling.”
