(AP) -- COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- An Orangeburg Army Reserve lieutenant colonel and Afghanistan veteran is preparing to announce his bid for lieutenant governor.
Campaign manager and spokesman Joshua Gross said Monday that Bill Connor plans to announce his bid Tuesday at the Statehouse.
Republican Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer said last week he'll probably run for governor. GOP Gov. Mark Sanford can't seek third term in 2010.
That leaves a scramble for at least two of the state's top offices.
Connor is the first to formally announce his plans. Mike Campbell ran for the office in 2006 and lost in the primary runoff to Bauer. He's said he's considering a bid.
The Orangeburg lawyer wrote a book "Articles from War" about his experiences that included commanding an Army Ranger company.
