SEATTLE, WA (AP) -- Part of an assault case against a Washington state sheriff's deputy is a video that allegedly shows him kicking and hitting a 15-year-old girl in a jail cell last November.The surveillance video released Friday shows the attack beginning after the girl enters the cell and kicks off one of her shoes toward a deputy. In addition to kicking and hitting, the video shows the girl being slammed to the floor of the cell and having her hair pulled.
Deputy Paul Schene is accused of using excessive force on the girl, who was being held in an auto theft case. Schene pleaded not guilty on Thursday in Superior Court to fourth-degree assault.
King County Prosecutor Daniel Satterberg says the deputy's action is "beyond just police misconduct," and calls it "criminal misconduct."
