WASHINGTON D.C. (AP) -- President Barack Obama says he's gearing up for a fight with monied D.C. lobbies as he attempts to revamp the way the nation deals with health care, energy and education. In his weekly radio and Internet address, Obama says his ambitious budget plan unveiled Thursday can help millions of Americans.
Obama says insurance companies will fight against having "to bid competitively to continue offering Medicare coverage," but he says the move will lower health care costs.
And he says banks, student loan lenders and oil companies will rail against his calls to end some subsides and tax breaks. But he says the moves would save taxpayers billions of dollars, make college more affordable and fund a renewable energy economy.
Obama says passing the budget "won't be easy."
But, he says his proposals are the "change the American people voted for in November."
