COLUMBIA, SC -- A typical February day usually doesn't lead to t-shirts and people spending time outside, but folks like James Cox are taking advantage of the spring-like day at the USC Horseshoe.
"I moved down here from Virginia for days like this, so when it was 17 degrees last week, I was not happy."
Students like Kat Frank can't run away from their work, but they can certainly make the best of it.
"I feel great. It's really relaxing. We came out to do some homework, and it was a change from the usual winter weather around here, so we're excited."
Students aren't the only ones found here on this historic part of campus. Will Rose brought his family because he couldn't resist the sweet sunshine.
"We had to get outside. We were inside for a little while, and then we said, 'Hey, let's have a picnic, and they said the horseshoe would be a great place, so we come out here, and there's tons of people, and having a blast."
James Cox hopes with weather like this, Punxsutawney Phil can eat his forecast.
"It's a great start to hopefully an early spring 'cause the groundhog didn't think so, so hopefully this will turn that around."
