Columbia leaders predict 2009 will be as hard a year as any in recent memory. Mayor Bob Coble gave his State of the City address Thursday night, looking back at the capital city's achievements in 2008 and the challenges that are ahead in 2009.
The city has some tall tasks to tackle and it will have to do so on short money. Columbia has to hire a new city manager this year, hopes to beef up its police force, wants to create jobs with help from Uncle Sam and wants to take advantage of the "green economy."
