COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Drivers perturbed by long delays at railroad crossings on the way to work, lunch or home will continue to endure those waits.
A bill that would keep trains from blocking four-lane intersections for longer than five minutes in South Carolina towns stalled in a House subcommittee Tuesday.
Rep. Ted Pitts, R-Lexington and the subcommittee's chairman, said he doesn't see the bill being brought back up.
The bill would have barred long delays between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m.; noon and 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. within a town's or city's limits.
Pitts said federal regulations and other state laws already affect that issue and he was concerned about restricting Charleston port operations rail traffic.
