Some pilots in the Air Force's 55th fighter squadron arrived home from Iraq after four months in the war zone. The troops are happy to be back in South Carolina and for most of them the homecoming is unforgettable.
Excitement fills the air as friends and family gather waiting until their heroes come home. Lynn Demayo and her five young children are among the crowd. Because of army delays, she wouldn't tell them their Dad was coming home until she knew it was actually happening. "I didn't tell them until this morning."
Finally after months of waiting, the Demayos and other families made their way outside with their eyes looking up in the sky and down the runway. Then you can hear the engines. Even though the planes are out of sight, Lynn knows her husband is flying home. As the wheels touched the ground and the pilots rolled in one by one, emotions flew high.
"I felt such a sense of pride," says Lynn.
"I felt exhilarated. The love of my life walking back over it was great emotion," says Lt. Col. Miles Demayo.
The rest of the 55th fighter squadron comes home this weekend.
