COLUMBIA, SC -- Guns and roses - the two don't typically go together unless you're a fan of the popular rock group, but on Valentine's Day, one can get you the other.

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said in a press conference on Friday, "If you got an unwanted or unneeded gun, now's the time to turn it in and get something for it."

"Guns for roses" will take place at Friendship Baptist Church, allowing you to turn in your firearms in exchange for a rose and a Best Buy gift card.

Columbia Police Chief Tandy Carter says, "If we remove one gun on the 14th of February or a thousand guns on the 14th of February, there will be one less gun or a thousand fewer guns on our streets."

Police hope that leads to something more important...

Sheriff Lott says, "Bring that gun in, get that gift card, get that rose, but also know that you may be saving someone's life."

They'll use a day of love to promote love of life.
