The Aiken Department of Public Safety's Highway Enforcement of Aggressive Traffic (HEAT) Team, and our partners in the 2nd Judicial Circuit Law Enforcement Network will be conducting multiple public safety checkpoints and increasing DUI Patrols to detect and deter impaired drivers on New Year's Eve.
In addition to the checkpoints motorists can expect additional officers assigned to the detection of impaired drivers on the roadways throughout the City of Aiken.
In conjunction with the South Carolina Department of Public Safety's "Sober or Slammer" campaign, message boards displaying "Happy New Year- Expect Checkpoints- Sober or Slammer" have been placed in multiple locations throughout the City of Aiken in an effort to inform motorists of the planned enforcement activities and to deter motorists from driving while impaired.
Motorists can expect checkpoints along main roadways such as SC-19 (Whiskey Road), US-1 (Richland Avenue), SC-118, SC-302 (Pinelog Road), as well as secondary roads throughout the City of Aiken.
It is our desire to continue to improve the quality of life for our citizens and visitors in the City of Aiken by reducing alcohol related collisions and traffic fatalities through dedicated enforcement, traffic safety education, and DUI prevention efforts.
