TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- An Egyptian college student has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for making a YouTube video demonstrating how to build a remote detonator for a terrorist bomb.
The video was found on Ahmed Abdellatif Sherif Mohamed's laptop computer when he and another University of South Florida student were stopped for speeding in South Carolina last year. He was sentenced Thursday.
The 27-year-old Mohamed pleaded guilty in June to a federal charge of providing material support to terrorists.
His co-defendant, Youssef Samir Megahed, is awaiting trial on charges of illegally transporting explosives. Prosecutors say the students were carrying bomb-making ingredients in their trunk.
The men say they were just low-grade fireworks.
