COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- It's official: John McCain has won South Carolina's presidential contest.
The votes cast Monday by the eight members of the state's Electoral College were not surprising. McCain won 54 percent of the vote to Barack Obama's 45 percent in South Carolina on Election Day.
The Electoral College's 537 members cast votes in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. A majority of 270 is required to win.
The tally for Obama based on the Nov. 4 vote is expected to be 365, and McCain is expected to receive 173.
