CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- A 48-year-old man with a long criminal record has been sentenced to life in prison for raping a woman in downtown Charleston two years ago.
Prosecutor Scarlett Wilson says Daniel Jerome Jenkins is the "poster boy for no parole."
Jenkins' record extends to 1978, when he was sentenced to 24 years on another rape charge. But the prosecutor says Jenkins did not serve the full sentence on that or other felony convictions, including robbery and assault.
The Post and Courier of Charleston reported Friday that Jenkins' life sentence is for a 2006 attack of a 31-year-old woman in her home. Prosecutors said Jenkins beat her in the head with a glass ashtray, then stole her cell phone before leaving.
