As the holidays approach, many are reflecting on the true meaning of Christmas through celebrating the birth of Christ.
The Township Auditorium is hosting a "Soulful Noel" this weekend and the featured performer is a former Broadway star.
Nearly 2,500 school kids packed the Township Thursday to dance, sing and learn the true meaning of Christmas.
The majority of the performers are from right here in the Midlands and Jennifer Holliday.
"It's a joyful experience because they get to see someone they know," said Holliday.
Holliday is best known for her role in the original Broadway production "Dreamgirls" in 1981.
She's in Columbia this weekend, guest starring in "Soulful Noel" a multicultural extravaganza, featuring talented Midlands performers.
Holliday is thrilled to work with them.
"These are very gifted young people and just to see them sing and dance, I've been quite impressed," said Holliday.
The former "Dreamgirl" is also dreaming up a new CD, which she says will feature songs with new meanings.
"People are looking for real singers again and I think my timing would be right to release a new CD in the spring of 2009," said Holliday.
And based on reaction to her "Soulful Noel" performance, Jennifer Holliday's timing to visit Columbia is also right.
"Soulful Noel" is at the Township Friday and Saturday.
Doors open at 7 p.m and tickets are $25 and $50.
